Currently in Canada, major employers are abusing their workers in the name of profit. To name a few: Walmart, Amazon, McDonalds, Starbucks, Canadian Tire, Loblaws, ….
These and other employers pay poverty wages and schedule employees so they do not qualify for benefits. This only benefits the executives and shareholders. It does not benefit the employees or customers. Some employers actively retaliate against employees who stand up for their rights and the rights of their colleagues. In the extreme, some employers have shut down stores where employees have unionized.
- People living in poverty and without benefits are a detriment to a strong economy.
- Greedy shareholders are a detriment to a strong economy.
A NovaConservative government would streamline the process for employees to unionize, and would intervene if an employer retaliated against unionization.
Conversely, unions have sometimes defended members who committed blatant misconduct. A NovaConservative government would apportion some responsibility for an employees future actions on the union that defended them in the face of terminable conduct.
