The Crime abatement initiative targets criminals, not law abiding citizens, residents, and visitors.
A NovaConservative government would positively change processes to restore public faith and confidence in the justice system. These changes include
public awareness: informing the public about regional and national criminal issues
effective enforcement: empowering law enforcement with tools and training to effectively enforce the law
- caveat: law enforcement who themselves break the law will not be shielded from punishment
prosecution: speeding up the trial system to ensure fair and expedient trials of the accused.
- expedient trials brings rapid closure for the victim, witnesses, and perpetrator
- escalating punishments will be made mandatory for repeat offenders
- alternative programs will be established as punishment for first-time offenders
- if a corporation is found guilty, the decision-makers (corporate executives) will be deemed accomplices and similarly punished
- restorative justice will become central to restitution
training programs: education will open doors to employment after release and reduce the rate of reoffending.
- counselling services will be offered to inmates, with the goal of helping them deal with their issues and trauma
- academic and vocational programs will be offered to inmates, with the goal of providing them with post-release employable skills
- in and out-institution work programs will be offered to inmates, with the goal of having them engage in restitution and earn money
release: post-release supports will facilitate reintegration and reduce the rate of reoffending.
- possibly peer-support groups
It costs a lot to incarcerate a person. While it is critical to keep some offenders off the streets, other offenders can be rehabilitated and reintegrated into society.
Gun ban
The Liberal and NDP infatuation with stripping reasonable firearms from law-abiding citizens is becoming an unhealthy obsession. The problem is not legal gun owners. The problem is the ease of illegal guns entering Canada and the limited action to remove illegal guns from criminals and society.
For some Canadians, guns are a necessity. For other Canadians, guns are a hobby. Having guns as a hobby is no different than flying drones as a hobby. And for the record: more drone pilots are charged with drone-related crimes (invasion of privacy, impeding flight operations, etc.) than legal gun owners are charged with gun-related crimes.
if you don’t like guns, don’t buy them. But there is no reason to force your beliefs onto others.
To clarify, a NovaConservative government stands against citizens being allowed to carry firearms in public. Innumerable studies show that armed citizens results in more gun-related incidents, not less. Arming citizens does negatively impact the public.
