The Israel-Hamas conflict

Fundamentally, the conflict between Israel and Hamas is one of religious ideology. Both sides believe they are “right” because of their beliefs, and will die and kill for their beliefs.

The actions of Hamas to kill and kidnap was wrong.

Actions by Israel to defend itself are fine, within reason. Israel is justified in declaring war on Hamas. However, Israel’s war strategies are tantamount to genocide of the Gaza people: starvation, concentration, denial of escape routes, denial of medical supplies, bombing of civilians, indiscriminate shootings, etc.

Hamas killed or kidnapped 1391 people on 07 October. To date, Israel is estimated to have killed 35,000 civilians in Gaza, including journalists, aid workers, and UN observers. These actions by Israel are wrong. They are grossly out of proportion and target the wrong people: they target Gaza civilians, not Hamas. There are better ways for Israel to wage war on Hamas that protects the Gaza people. That Israel refuses to do this is a war crime.
