Section 181 of the Criminal Code of Canada criminalized the spreading of false information. T.conservatives argued that they had a constitutional right to lie. T.conservatives argued that if they could get away with it, all the better for them. Fairness is not in the t.conservative vocabulary.
With the removal of section 181, the spread of misinformation has exploded. The detrimental effects on society are evident.
A NovaConservative government would use the notwithstanding clause to re-enact section 181 of the Criminal Code for the betterment of honest citizens and society.
181 Every one who wilfully publishes a statement, tale or news that he knows is false and that causes or is likely to cause injury or mischief to a public interest is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.
